2996 Memorial Tribute to Patrick Joseph Buhse, of Lincroft, NJ

There are two words that seemed to be in just about everyone’s description of PJ, as Patrick was called by many:  smiling and generous.

His seems to have been a life filled with the best passions – certainly for his wife and their two young children, clearly for his close-knit Irish American family, and without question for his family of co-workers at Cantor Fitzgerald.

PJ was described as “relentlessly social” – and his ability to light up a room, a party or a gathering of friends or family shines through all the beautiful testimonials to this man.  One telling quote:  “I never heard anyone say a single bad thing about him, nor of a person who met him and didn’t like him.”  — what a special gift for connection and caring this young man had.

There is also no question that this was a man with loyalty as a high value. Whether it was always remembering family, or the unusual work ethic these days of being with his first employer right out of school for 18 years straight, or even being an avid fan of the three New York sports teams – having the persistence of sticking to the value of absolute loyalty is as admirable as it is rare in these days of self-interest.

That passion and loyalty brought him success in his job – starting out of high school as a clerk and rising to become a government bond broker and vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald.  And yet, that success was a springboard not to self-importance, but as a way to enjoy life and to give to others.  His wife, Susan, was quoted as saying “Patrick’s biggest commitment was to make sure that people were happy and taken care of.”  What he liked even better than amassing money, it was said, was giving it away to relatives – a car here, a fur coat there, private school for the nieces and nephews.  Generous with family and friends … and always… a smile that could light up the room.

With love, sharing and caring in abundance … This was a life well lived.

PJ, your memory lives strong with many in this world.
